When
you register as a Trainee, you get allocated to a Mentor.
This
will be the Mentor with the highest status who has the least
number of Trainees at present. This ensures that each Mentor
gets one Trainee before one gets a second one, while we always
assign the most experienced Mentor when the number of Trainees
is equal.
The
Trainee is given the name of their Mentor when they register.
The
Mentor receives an email informing them that they now have a
new Trainee, and asking them to get in touch immediately
|
|
The
main form of communication between Mentor and Trainee should
be the Internal Mail (this is going to start soon, not later
than on Monday 5th Feb). In the meantime, chatrooms and Bulletin
Boards can be used.
Please
do not exchange personal email, telephone numbers or messaging
addresses: this is not safe, particularly since Junior Members
(by definition) have not been in the club long enough to be
well known by us.
Our
Internal Mail is the safest way to communicate privately to
another member: it is available only to members, it is automatically
filtered, and can be checked by Helpers in cases of dispute.
|
| The
main goal of the Mentoring programme is to help new members to
achieve Full Member status. Also, it is meant to provide them
with a friend who can show them around, share their exploration
with them, and in general communicate with them the true GirLand
spirit! |
|
The
reward for the Trainee is graduating to Full Member, and also
gain new friends.
The
reward for the Mentor is the feeling of having helped another
member to enjoy the club as much as they do. If the Trainee
graduates to Full Membership in at most 2 month from registering
as Trainee, the Mentor will also get up to 500 points and a
Mentor Icon. When the Trainee graduates, we'll ask them how
helpful their Mentor was to them: according to their answer,
we will give up to 500 points (for extremely helpfulness).
|
|
The
proper way to terminate the Mentor/Trainee relationship is,
of course, for the Trainee to successfully graduate to Full
Member.
However,
it can also be terminated for other reasons:
1)
if any of the parts is exploiting the relationship to be abusive,
to pester or to take advantage in any other way
2)
if any of the parts is not participating actively in the process,
especially by not answering Internal Mail messages whenever
they can (although of course it must be remembered that different
people have different patterns of internet access)
3)
if any of the parts is banned
